Olcott, NY, April 27th-30th, Lake Ontario, Salmon & Trout

First Salmon tournament of the year for our club and the first trip to Lake Ontario in about 10 years. We had 4 boats participate from the club and over the first 3 days, all 4 boats combined to catch 38 kings, with all but 3 exceeding 15 lbs and the largest at 25.2 lbs caught by Gerry Sickon on the "Penny Pincher" on Saturday. This does not include the numerous Coho, with some nearing 10lbs , the biggest a 9.75 lb fish caught by Bob Chalfin on Marge's Diamond Sunday), and many Lake Trout between 25" and 30" that had to be released due to the slot limit, although Foolish Pleasure managed to bag a 36", 16.2 lb Lake Trout on Sunday.

Conditions were sunny, low 60's, with a North/Eastern wind between 0-15 knots, and waves 3-4 ft for several hours during the days. Report from Marge's Diamond:

Thursday, we arrived and fished later in the afternoon approx 2.5 miles to 4.8 miles west of the harbor in 55ft to 85 ft deep water, going 2 for 5. We landed a small Coho and a King near 18lb. Setups taking hits were a full core with magnum Michael Jackson and Rigger with #4 Red Head j-plug 50 ft down, 10 ft back, speed 1.6 - 1.8 knots gps.

Friday, same distance west, but as the color of the water changed, we had to go deeper to find the fish 100 ft to 120 ft deep going 5 for 8 in 4 hours. We ran the same setup as day before, speed 1.6 - 1.8 knots gps, but with magnum sliders "Jaw Breakers" (hot pink/orange w green tape) catching the Coho & Lake Trout. Totals, 2 Coho, biggest 4 lb, 2 King 15-19lb, 1 Lake Trout (released) 30".

Saturday, same distance west,  we had to go deeper to find the fish 170 ft  deep going 6 for 9. We ran the same setup as day before, speed 1.6 - 1.8 knots gps. Totals 4 Coho, biggest 6 lb, 1 King 15 lb, 1 Lake Trout (released) 29".

Sunday, same distance west,  we went deep to find the fish 170 ft  deep going 3 for 5. We ran the same setup as day before, speed 1.6 - 1.8 knots gps, but soon figured out the active fish were in the upper 20ft. Changed to half core w magnum jaw breaker spoon, sliders, and tight line a large fire tiger thunder stick. Totals 3 Coho, biggest 9.75 lb.
